I finally finished my 101 in 1001 list! I've been working on it for awhile now- it takes some time to come up with that many solid goals! But I'm really happy with it. To see it, click the lovely "101 in 1001" up there in the menu bar, or click the picture! :)
In case you're unaware, the 101 in 1001 project is just a cool way to get stuff done and have a better life.
The goal to complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days (roughly 2.75 years). Tasks must be specific (i.e., no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (i.e., represent some amount of work on my part). Why 1001 days? Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as new year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 days is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.
I'm really looking forward to working on my list. There are some I'm super excited about and that will be lots of fun to complete (rollerblade, see the Grand Canyon, take Caleb to a Mariner's game, try some new dessert recipes), and things that will be difficult or annoying to do (go two weeks without internet, unsubscribe from unnecessary email lists, don't complain for a week, don't eat sweets for a month). There are some that are not completely in my control, which is a little scary (buy a house and get pregnant again, namely). But overall, if I complete most items on my list by the end of my 1001 days, I think I'll be a happier, healthier person.
I'll be blogging my progress along the way! I think it'll keep me accountable AND help me complete #95 on my list. ;)
I unashamedly stole ideas from lots of people (friends and strangers alike) to complete my list. There are so many other people taking this challenge, which I love. If you decide to do it, send me a link to your list, and I'll add you to my page! I love seeing what other people hope to accomplish, it's so inspiring.
Of all the things I hope to do, I think I'm most excited about my philanthropic section. I'm really looking forward to doing some intentional random acts of kindness, making someone's day with a huge tip, making cookies for police officers, and all of the other stuff on there. I pray often that I can raise Caleb to be a kind and generous person, and I think one way to do it is to routinely lead by example and do things for others. Someday soon, he'll be old enough to help me make cards and visit elderly people in retirement homes and pass out clothing to homeless people. I just can't wait for that.
Lastly (I know this is kind of all over the place, sorry!), I'm really looking forward to my reading list! I've already asked my Facebook friends to suggest some of their favorite books to me, and I was flooded with responses. I'm keeping track of all the books I want to read on Goodreads right now (clicky for my list), but I think I'll create a page on here to keep track of what I have read and want to read.
What things could you do in 1001 days? The sky is the limit! (Tell me about it in the comments, or link me to your list!)
