Ahh a new year! One of my favorite things. I try to write down a little something every January to not only record my goals and hopes for the coming year, but to reflect on my previous year and celebrate it. So here it is.
2013 Highlights:
- My middle school best friend and her sweetie Patrick visited us for a week. It was delightful to show them around Bellingham and spend time with them on our turf. It's precious to me that our friendship remains strong to this day, despite 3,000 miles between us.
- We found out in mid-January that we were expecting our first baby (surprise)!
- We moved into our first house! We painted the nursery, planted a garden, built a fire pit, got chickens... lots of little things to make it our cozy little home
- I took an awesome children's literature course and got to attend the Children's Literature Conference at WWU, which included meeting several amazing authors!
- I (re)started my Etsy shop and made a few sales
- I ran/walked more than 200 miles
- I learned to quilt
- I quit my job at BioLife (after almost 4 years!) and became a stay at home mama
- I nannied two sweet, active little boys and had so much fun with them... until they moved to Hawaii!
- Andrew and I celebrated our one year anniversary (with miniature golf and arcade games, of course)
- I turned 24 (two days past my due date) and Andrew turned 25
And, of course, the best thing to happen... on October 9th, we
welcomed the most beautiful baby boy into our family!

I'm really not sure how that can ever be beat. Just Caleb's birth alone makes 2013 the best year of my life. Becoming a mom has been absolutely wonderful- thrilling, humbling, exciting, terrifying, and extremely fulfilling. Andrew and I love being parents and feel so blessed to have such an amazing son.
This next year, I'm looking forward to so many things. Watching my baby grow into a little boy, seeing him take his first steps and hearing his first words, celebrating his first birthday... oh, how excited I am to experience these things!
